Software Engineer

Engineering · BOSTON, Massachusetts
Department Engineering
Employment Type Full-Time
Minimum Experience Mid-level

Tremor’s aim is simple: apply state of the art economics and mathematics to improve efficiency in illiquid financial markets. Our unique team ranges from software engineers to world experts in game theory and market design, working together to build technologies that can disrupt trillion-dollar industries. Our engineers are not simply strong in software development but are also mathematicians and scientists, energized by the opportunity to solve complex, multi-disciplinary problems. A work week at Tremor can be as diverse as:

Monday - traditional frontend software engineering (Javascript+Vue)

Tuesday - traditional backend software engineering (Python+Django+PostgreSQL)

Wednesday - data analysis and exploration in (R+Shiny)

Thursday - mathematical programming and convex optimization (Python or Julia)

Friday - ML modeling of market behavior (TensorFlow)

We are searching for engineers who are as excited about building software as they are about learning the mathematics of market design. Of course, our software engineers focus first on building software, and we expect new engineers to have the background to quickly pick up our frontend and backend stacks and deliver new capabilities end-to-end within a few months. From there, successful engineers have myriad opportunities to branch out and learn the complex and stimulating specialty areas of our business. As an engineer, Tremor offers a unique experience — a small software startup solving complex mathematical problems alongside world-renowned economists.

An ideal candidate will have a degree in computer science and a background in mathematics or economics.
